Once upon a time, the Château de Fontanges...

The château

Over 600 years of history

Its name echoes its most distant origins, referring to the soil on which the domain was built. Fontanges - derived from the Occitan "Fon Tencha"- means "dyed spring". It thus refers to the red clay of the Causse, typical of the region...

First owned by the Balaguier family (1280 - 13th century), then by the Lord of Belcastel, Alzias de Sauhnac and Rodez (1422 - 15th century), it was at the end of the 16th century that the Château de Fontanges was owned by Jean d'Autry, a merchant from Rodez.
